Monday Feature: Vintage Sew & So
Hello, Good Morning and Welcome to Monday again! It’s an exciting week here on the blog and I’m feeling overly cheery!
And rightfully so as I have the lovely Kerri from Vintage Sew & So‘s great creations to show you! Kerri is a master at sewing (in my opinion) and sews not only for her shops but does her daughter’s dance costumes as well! That’s one talented lady!
Here are some of my favourites:
Now Available: Patterns
A new range of products to present to you!

Did you know that I was a closet crafty kid? I didn’t tell many of the other kids at school about it, because they didn’t like different, and crafting was different in the 90s!
I liked to spend my school holidays creating patterns and sewing things on my grandmother’s sewing machine. I once made a camel for a friend that loved the Frenzal Rhomb album, A Man’s Not a Camel. (I was 14 and it was funny at the time)
Dannielle, you’re rambling again!
Oops, sorry, I’ll get to the point. I have now created my first product in a new range of patterns based on my bag and accessory designs. Over the coming months I will be adding more of these designs to my website that you will be able to purchase and download to use for both personal use and for selling on your crafty website or at a market.
What you will get…
In the patterns you will get detailed instructions on cutting, assembling and finishing the product. You will also get pictures that accompany every step, to make sure you are heading in the right direction. And you will of course get a pattern that you can print out on A4 paper that you can use as many times as you like.
If you would like more information on my patterns you can simply click here or go to the Patterns tab above.
What’s available now?
The first pattern that I have released is my cosmetic pouch pattern. It’s a great pattern for those with beginner to intermediate sewing skills and for anyone who wants to learn to insert zips. The cosmetic pouches are one of my favourite things to make as gifts and have many uses beyond just cosmetics.
If you would like to see or buy the pattern you can go here
Or if you would like to buy one ready made you can get one here
What’s next?
I’m working on a few different ideas for my next pattern and am considering making this popular bag style into a pattern. But, I would love your ideas.
Do you have a favourite bag or accessory of mine that you would like to see in pattern form? Just let me know in the comments below or feel free to email me here.
Inspiration: Vintage Dressmaking Book
About a week ago I was visiting with my Grandma and her friend Joy came to visit as well. I have known Joy all my life, she’s like an extra grandma.
Joy lives in a retirement village not too far from me and I sometimes go around to fix her tv. In the retirement village she is their librarian and she gets to decide which of the books will stay and which they don’t need. It is because of this that Joy gave me this fantastic Vintage dressmaking book I have to show you today.
The book is called Successful Dressmaking:

The paper cover is a little worse for ware but it is a really old book. In fact it is so old that it was published in Australia before they started putting the year in the copyright.
The inside cover was too lovely not to share with you
It has fantastic instructions on measuring, pattern making, sewing and even fitting garments. Here are some of the pages:
It’s really a complete guide to sewing. I can’t wait to have a proper read through it and hopefully improve my sewing skills from it!

I just love the illustrations on the back cover too.
Do you know this book? Or is it new to you too? What do you think of it? Tell me in the comments!
