With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, let’s talk about love. But not just any kind of love – handmade love.

To me, “handmade art” automatically means love. Think about what goes into a handcrafted item. It’s the love of an artist crafting their piece. It’s love of a medium, love of an idea, love of color, love of design, love of expression that keeps artists going. No matter the other reasons, at the core of it, artists do what they do out of love.
As an artist myself, I feel pretty passionate about handmade. But the idea of handmade love goes beyond just buying and making art. It’s the simple things, the time taken on my behalf, a gesture done to make me smile. Things like a sweet, handwritten note from my sister or a thoughtful email from a friend. Or my niece’s newest card made with me in mind and sent through regular mail. This is handmade love, too, and inspires me to do the same for the people in my life.
How about you? Do you celebrate the idea of handmade love? What’s the sweetest thing someone has done for you or you for them?

Agreed! “Handmade love” exists because, whether I make it or you make it, the creator pours their heart and soul into it, so the item itself is truly a manifestation of love and friendship.
So true Sarah! :)
