Today I thought I’d share with you how I created my wall panels.
I start with my sketchbook, where I create very (and I stress very!) rough sketches of the ideas in my head.
Then I recreate them in photoshop by making individual prints. After I’m happy with how the individual prints look I upload to the spoonflower website, where I send it to them for printing and my the magic of the internet they print it out and post it to me!
While I’m waiting patiently for my fabric to arrive I cut my lengths of timber from the hardware store to size. I like to listen to music that has a good beat when I’m doing this as it makes me cut faster. haha. Motion City Soundtrack are my favourite at the moment!

This is the hand jigsaw I use to cut the timber. It’s set for left handers like me.
Then I use my electric staple gun and the hammer to join them together.
I love using the staple gun, I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I have put something together myself.
And voila! They are ready to have the cut canvas stretched over them and stapled into place.
The finished product!
Here’s one that has been wrapped and is ready to ship:
How do you create? Do you follow the same path each time or are you more organic and just do the steps in the order you feel like?

Nice to see your work area and design process!
Sometimes I sketch out my designs before I make them and other times an idea comes to me and I make it straight away. Other times I just get creating because the piece I am making is a variation of a previous creation. :)
Thanks Deb!!
That’s a really interesting way to create, just starting straight away :) I love you’re designs!
I so LOVE the wall panels!!
I have my sights on more that you have instore!!!
Well done!!
Thanks Tammy! That’s sweet of you to say! :)
Aha! An insight into the mind of a creative genius.
It’s so nice to see how much love you put into your products and I had no idea you were a southpaw!
Thanks so much for sharing this.
Thanks Mariella! I’ve never heard the term southpaw, I’m going to take it as a compliment. :)
